A question that comes up from time to time is, “Why doesn’t the Utility Billing account information section support the Safari or Chrome browsers?”
The Utility Billing division of the City of Lawrence manages the water, sewer and trash billing that you have at yourhome. On the Utility Billing home page near the bottom
is a section called Get Your Account Information, that has a link for registered customers to view information about their utility account online.
In the past, any browser has been able to access this information without issue. But late last year, the company the city uses providing that particular web interface for Utility Billing information dropped support for Apple Safari and Google Chrome browsers.
The good news is the city is moving to a new system for Utility Billing and the web interface for customers will work with Apple Safari and Google Chrome browsers once again.
The bad news is that the transition is a complicated one, as we are dealing with sensitive data, which means it will take a great deal of time to complete the transition.
We are sorry. We understand it can be disappointing to not have your favorite browser work to suit your needs and with 11 percent of our visitors using Safari and almost 5 percent using Chrome in 2010 (so far), we don’t take this lightly.
We’re moving as quickly and as safely as we can on this issue and promise to keep you up to date here and through our social media channels. We’re aiming to have it done by May 1, 2011.
In the meantime, just to get by for now, please use the latest versions of Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox.
Thanks for hanging in there with us.
Thanks for the update. It’s kinda funny that the developers of the (crummy) system in use now can’t even spell “Firefox” correctly in their error message!
