Alcohol Ordinance – 2015 Oktoberfest Lawrence; Saturday October 24, 2015

 

Downtown Lawrence, Inc. in partnership with the Lawrence Chamber of Commerce, has requested an ordinance to sell, possess and consume alcohol within the public right of way on the right of way adjacent to the Lawrence Public Library (707 Vermont Street) and the Library Plaza area on Saturday October 24, 2015 from 3:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. for the 2015 Oktoberfest Lawrence Event. The applicant has obtained written permission from the adjacent property owners agreeing to the event and ordinance.

 

The request to sell, possess and consume alcohol within the public right of way has been reviewed pursuant to City of Lawrence Code, Chapter IV, Article 1, Section 4-113 and the event was not found to be within 400 feet of a church or school.

 

In addition; Police, Parks and Recreation, Public Works, Fire / Medical, Lawrence Transit, Downtown Lawrence, Inc., Explore Lawrence, Inc., and the Chamber all have reviewed this permit with no issues. Lawrence Association of Neighborhoods (LAN) and the Oread Neighborhood Association have also received notice of this event and pending Commission action.

 

ACTION

Adopt on first reading Ordinance No. 9160, allowing the sale, possession and consumption of alcohol on a portion of the public right of way in the 700 block of Vermont Street adjacent to the Lawrence Public Library on Saturday October 24, 2015 from 3:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m., for the 2015 Oktoberfest Lawrence event
