RE:

Street name change; a portion of old “Haskell Avenue” to “Haskell Lane” and a portion of old “31st Street” to “30th Terrace”

Background

The design and construction of the South Lawrence Trafficway (K-10) included a realignment of Haskell Avenue from 29th Street through the south city limits and a portion of 31st Street. However, a portion of old Haskell Avenue and a portion of old 31st Street remains and there are adjacent properties addressed along this area (see attached map). There are currently five (5) properties addresses along this portion of old Haskell Avenue; however, there are no properties addressed along the portion of old 31st Street, although there are access points. In order to prevent duplication of street names and to provide clear direction to emergency personnel and the public, it is necessary to change the name of the old portion of Haskell Avenue and the portion of old 31st Street that will remain in place and open to public travel.

All property owners with property addressed along old Haskell Avenue were notified of the proposed change by letter on 31 July 2015; to date, no responses have been received from any of the owners

Action Request

Adopt on first reading, Ordinance No. 9145, renaming that portion of old “Haskell Avenue” between 29th Street and Horizon Drive to “Haskell Lane”; and, renaming that portion of old “31st Street” remaining open to public travel to “30th Terrace.”
