RE:	Election of Mayor

The City Commission has directed staff to add the agenda item of election of Mayor to the agenda for the meeting August 18, 2015. 

Nominations for Mayor should be received and closed and then a motion made to elect a new Mayor.  Should the Commission take no action otherwise, the term of the new Mayor would be to fill the existing Mayor term, through April 2016.  The Commission could also choose to designate a different term for Mayor.  As mentioned by the City Attorney at the special City Commission meeting on August 14, 2015, in any case staff will be working on proposed changes to the City code in response to recent legislative changes.  The term of the Mayor is one item that will need to be addressed given the change in City Commission terms mandated by the new state law. 

Subsequent to the action of electing a Mayor, and depending on who amongst the current City Commissioners is selected as Mayor, an election of a Vice Mayor may or may not need to be held.  Therefore, staff has added this as a possible item.
