Event Permit – 2015 Urban Water Slide (Saturday August 8 & 9, 2015) |
Silverback Productions have requested a Street Event Temporary Use of Right-a-way Permit to close George Williams Way from south of 6th Street to north of Harvard Road (see attached maps). Both 6th Street and Harvard Road will be open to through traffic. George Williams Way will be closed from 12:00 a.m. on Saturday August 8, 2015 to 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, August 9, 2015 for the Urban Water Slide, a 1,000 foot long water slide.
The applicant has obtained written permission from USD 497 to use Langston Hughes School for parking. The applicant has also sent out notice of this event and pending City Commission action to adjacent property owners. They have also contacted Corpus Christi Church to coordinate access to the church.
The organizers have submitted a traffic control plan that includes message boards at 6th Street & Wakarusa Drive and Bob Billings Parkway & Wakarusa Drive to notify traffic of the closure on George Williams Way.
There will be no alcohol associated with this event in the public right of way.
In addition, Police, Parks and Recreation, Public Works, Fire / Medical, Lawrence Transit, Downtown Lawrence, Inc., and the Chamber all have reviewed this permit with no issues.
ACTION
Considering issuing a Street Event Temporary use of right-a-way permit allowing the closure of George Williams Way from south of 6th Street to north of Harvard Road from 12:00 a.m. on Saturday August 8, 2015 to 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, August 9, 2015 for the Urban Water Slide.
