RE: |
Holcom Park Center – Skylight Replacement – RFP Number R1503 |
Background
The existing Kalwall Skylight in the Holcom Park Center is nearly 30 years old and has been leaking for the past 4-5 years due to delamination of the exterior fiberglass surface and cracking of seams and flashing around the skylight edges. The attached picture shows the skylight from inside the gym. The discoloration shown in the picture delineates the degree of failure in the fiberglass. Significant improvements have been made in this type of panel in the past 30 years to eliminate this type of failure. The new panels will improve energy efficiency in the building and the quality of light in the gym.
Project Funding
This was one of the facility improvement projects approved by the City Commission to be funded with general obligation bonds in Resolution No. 7080 on August 5, 2014.
Proposal Information
The Parks & Recreation Department solicited proposals from qualified contractors to replace the Kalwall skylight in the Holcom Park Recreation Center Gym. Two companies responded with the following proposals:
VENDOR |
PRIMARY BASE BID |
Tigris Specialty Construction |

Mill Valley Construction |

Staff Recommendation
Both of the companies provided proposals with acceptable qualifications. The proposal submitted by Tigris Construction demonstrated a higher degree of experience in this type of project and provided the best pricing to complete the project. It is anticipated work will be completed by October, 2015.
