RE:

Transit Amenities Guidelines/Policy

Background

A key element in continuing to improve the service provided by Lawrence Transit in the future is a commitment to amenities for our passengers. The most significant of these amenities would be for a permanent transit center which would greatly improve quality of the service and our passenger’s experience. Once a decision is reached on the location of a transit center staff is expecting considerable changes to occur to most all of the routes. With this in mind staff has been reluctant to invest resources to install amenities at individual stops without having a clear understanding of how the system will operate once a transit center location is determined.

Until recently the installation of amenities has not been a high priority of Lawrence Transit and as a result no formal guidelines or policies were ever adopted. In preparation for a future change in service and a new desire to implement amenities for our passengers staff developed a set of guidelines and policies. This document was approved by the Public Transit Advisory Committee (PTAC) on July 14, 2015.

Staff Recommendation

Staff recommends adopting the Amenities Guidelines and Policies approved by the Public Transit Advisory Committee.
