RE:	Accept KDHE grant for funding of HHW Facility equipment and supplies

Background

On April 21, 2015, the City Commission authorized submittal of the City’s Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) grant application for equipment and supplies for the new permanent HHW Facility for the City of Lawrence and Douglas County. The original memo and grant application considered by the City Commission are attached. The HHW grant contract is also attached.

Project Description

The City of Lawrence requested grant assistance to purchase equipment and supplies for the new HHW Facility currently under construction at 2201 Kresge Road.  Equipment and supplies include spill containment pallets, shelving, rolling carts, forklift, and office furniture.  

Grant Award

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment awarded $40,001 of their available grant funds to the City of Lawrence HHW program. The City’s match will be met by capital expenditures of the new HHW Facility construction already under contract with B.A. Green Construction Co.

Action

Authorize the Interim City Manager to execute the Solid Waste Management Household Hazardous Waste Grant Contract for state fiscal year 2016.
