RE:

2015 Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant

Description

2015 Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) request for Douglas County Kansas Sheriff’s Office – Lawrence Police Department to use grant funds to upgrade the analog telephone system used by both agencies to a digital phone system.

The Justice Assistance Grant monetary allocation designated for Douglas County Kansas and the City of Lawrence will be jointly used to purchase equipment that will greatly improve communication within the two agencies. The new system will upgrade the current analog system to a digital system. This upgrade will allow both departments to integrate cell phone voicemail, desk voicemail, email, and text so that each can be accessed more efficiently than the current method.  The Lawrence Police Department seeks to partner with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Department to use the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Program to fund equipment needed to upgrade the current analog phone system to a digital system.

Details

Grant funds will be used to purchase computer infrastructure and software for the new phone system as well as telephone handsets.

Funding

The Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Grant is $36,685 with no matching requirement.

Action Request

Police Department staff requests the Interim City Manager to execute this agreement if the grant application is successful.
