Chair Chris Champagne called the meeting to order at 4:10 p.m.

Continue discussion of 2012 IRC ordinance and significant changes to mechanical portions of 2015 IRC

Staff distributed a clarification on the duct sealing and it does require the snap lock and button lock joints must also be sealed.  Duncan stated that the duct is already being tested and if the air leakage test fails, he can go ahead and seal the additional joints.  The board agreed to remove the exception of requiring snap lock and button lock joints unless the air leakage test shows they need additional sealing.

Staff also had a follow up of an inquiry of the board regarding make up air required for exhaust fans exceeding 400 cfm.  After a brief discussion the board agreed not to add an amendment to the code.

The board also raised a question of limiting the duct length for exhaust fans(Table M1506.2).  There was a concern of the low maximum length on flexible duct.  Staff said they would look in to it.

Miscellaneous

Staff asked the board to clarify in code language an outdoor design temperature.  Duncan stated the newest version of the Manual J software has a Lawrence, KS design temperature and he uses the design temperature of 93 degrees with 1% gross means, which is 97 degrees. He stated that if he sizes his equipment to the 93 degree temperature, he gets the calls from customers when the temperature goes above the indoor set point.  Blanchard stated that on the commercial side, she designs to 105 degrees.  Champagne agreed.  Blanchard suggested making the outdoor design temperature 97 degrees with a plus or minus 2 degrees.
