RE:	North Lawrence Sandrat Group

Summary of Request

The City received a request from the North Lawrence Sandrat group to place a brick memorial on City property. The proposed location is at park bench at the 2^nd and Locust Street parking lot. Currently there is a section of brick in front of the bench.

The Sandrat group is an informal group of former and current North Lawrence residents. The memorial is intended to remember residents of North Lawrence.

Purchasing the bricks will be the responsibility of the North Lawrence Sandrat group. The City is not responsible for installation. The North Lawrence Sandrat group will pay expenses related to removal of the current bricks and placement of the Memory Bricks.

Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department met with members of the North Lawrence Sandrat group to review the proposal. Since the donor is not a formal association an agreement was drafted to ensure understanding of the City’s process. The agreement outlines the guidelines and procedures for the placement, and long-term maintenance of the memorial bricks on City property. The City does not guarantee permanency of the brick memorial. If a memorial brick must be removed after being installed the City will replace with a blank brick.

Approve agreement with the North Lawrence Sandrat group to place a brick memorial on City property at 2^nd and Locust Street parking lot.
