RE:

Lawrence Municipal Airport

The Airport Advisory Board would like to request to be on the June 9, 2015 City Commission Agenda.

Both the City Commission and Airport Board have new members and this would be a good opportunity for introductions.  The Board can also provide to the City Commission an update of activities and looking forward to 2016 projects.

Specifically, the airport completed a Wildlife Hazard Study in 2014.  In 2016 the FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) has programmed a Wildlife Hazard Fencing Project.  The estimated cost is nearly $900,000 and the FAA will fund up to 90%.  The City will need a 10% match of $90,000.

The airport is currently completing an Environmental Impact Study.  A public hearing is scheduled in City Hall on June 17, 2015.

The Board continues to support and promote the airport through Flights for Leadership Lawrence.  We also conduct a Youth Aviation Camp and host community open houses.

In early May, Douglas County Emergency Management held a training exercise at the airport and provided a few recommendations.

Respectfully Submitted,

On behalf of Richard Haig

Lawrence Aviation Advisory Board, Chair
