RE:

Sign of Community Interest, Lawrence Workforce Center

Lawrence Workforce Center recently completed tenant improvements and received a Certificate of Occupancy for space at the Dwayne Peaslee Technical Center at 2920 Haskell; and has requested permission to place a temporary free-standing sign in City right-of-way immediately south of the drive entrance to the property along Haskell Avenue.

The sign is requested to remain in place until a permanent sign is manufactured and installed.  Staff understanding is that the permanent sign will be a multi-tenant sign for both the Dwayne Peaslee Center and the USD 497 Lawrence College and Career Center.  Timing for manufacture and installation of the permanent sign is not yet known.

Staff recommends approval of the request for approval of a sign of community interest for a free-standing sign in the City right-of-way south of the drive entrance to 2920 Haskell for a period of 120 days pending manufacture and installation of a permanent sign installed in accordance with the sign regulations contained in Chapter V, Article 18 of the City of Lawrence Code.  Approval may be revisited after 120 days if a permanent sign is not in place.

Action

Approve as “sign of community interest”, a request from Lawrence Workforce Center to place a temporary free-standing sign in City right-of-way south of the drive entrance to 2920 Haskell Avenue for a period of 120 days.
