RE:

Sign of Community Interest Request for “Lawrence Inside Out Project”

The Lawrence Inside Out Project received a 2014 Community Art Grant from the Lawrence Cultural Arts Commission. The project is scheduled to display various banners and prints from April 24 to May 31, 2015, and has requested permission to place temporary artwork in both public and private locations.

The final exhibition for the Lawrence Inside Out will include several interior and exterior installations of portrait displays. A few downtown locations will display portraits in their windows (La Familia, Arizona Trading Company, Wonder Fair and Watkins Community Museum). A banner (4’ x8’) will be displayed at the alley-way entrance of the Love Garden Record Store. The Warehouse Arts District (former Seed Co. building), Lawrence Creates Makerspace, Art Emergency, the Percolator and Van-Go plan to have large-scale exterior displays. Two (2) 20 feet tall portraits are planned on the front of the building at Van Go. A small installation is planned for the Turnhalle building. Many of the portraits will be displayed on walls using a wheatpasting technique.

Large-scale portraits (4’ x5’; and 2’ x3’) will be displayed in the windows of the Lawrence Public Library. The Lawrence Arts Center will also host an exhibition and display in the windows.

City assistance is being requested with the clean-up process the first week of June. Assistance is needed in power washing the sites where portraits are pasted on exterior buildings (Warehouse Arts District, Lawrence Creates Makerspace, Art Emergency, the Percolator and Van-Go).

The Lawrence Cultural Arts Commission (LCAC) reviewed and considered the Lawrence Inside Out request for temporary display of public art.  The Committee expressed their support for the project.  Draft minutes of the April 15, 2015 LCAC meeting are attached.
