Project No. PW1343 – 2014 Community Health Building Improvements.– City Bid No. B1524 Set Bid Date of May 26, 2015

Project Description

The City of Lawrence is seeking bid proposals for security update of several areas located within the Community Health Building. The work includes Controlled Access System upgrade, door modifications in tenant suites, and casework. Work shall be bid in two separate packages. Bid 1 includes the general remodel work. Bid 2 is for access control security.

Project History

On January 25, 2013, the City, County and representatives from several departments from the Community Health Facility met to discuss the Security Survey completed by the Lawrence Police Department.  There were additional meetings between the Police Department, Douglas County, City of Lawrence, Community Health Department staff, and Treanor Architects to determine the extent of the remodel, and what would be needed for security enhancements. It was mutually agreed by the City and the County to split all approved costs with a not to exceed budget of $120,000. Treanor Architects were directed to provide design and costs for improvements to the facility. This project was bid twice before, each time it exceeded the estimate and funding being provided by the City of Lawrence and the Douglas County. The project was then redesigned to lower the costs while still providing the base level improvements needed.

Project Details

City and County personnel have been working together with Treanor Architects to present a plan for the safety improvements.  Door access security equipment and software upgrades, card readers, and doors are being added to restrict access in many different areas of the building. This will help with the security and protection of staff.

Project Funding

The project budget is $120,000.00, this includes both design and construction costs. The City’s portion of the project will be funded through general obligation bonds. General obligation bond Resolution No. 7033 was passed August 13, 2013.
