RE:	Request to support Langston in Lawrence grant application

Background:

The City of Lawrence has received a request to support a grant application for the Langston in Lawrence project, commemorating the life of Langston Hughes in his hometown with various signage around Lawrence.

The grant committee will be reviewing the applications and making a final determination on April 23, 2015. 

Should the grant be awarded, City staff suggests that the project would work through any necessary city processes, and coordinate with the recommendations related to the cultural planning effort currently underway.

Recommended Action:

Authorize the Mayor to sign a letter of support for the Langston in Lawrence grant application submitted to the Douglas County Natural and Cultural Heritage Grant Program.
