RE: |
Loading Zone at 905 Rhode Island Street. |
Background
At the February 2, 2015 Traffic Safety Commission meeting, the Commission heard a request to establish a Loading Zone in front of 905 Rhode Island Street. There are currently 12 loading zones in the city established by ordinance and listed in Schedule 2 of the traffic schedules. Parking is currently permitted along both sides of Rhode Island Street.
Traffic Safety Commission Action
At the Traffic Safety Commission meeting, one (1) member of the public addressed the Commission in support of the request. No one spoke in opposition to the request. It was noted that the Social Service League operates a thrift store at 905 Rhode Island and there is very little parking available on the street and space is needed for donors to unload and deliver donations. The Commission indicated that parking would probably get worse with the new hotel at 9th & New Hampshire opening and guests avoiding the parking structure. The Commission recommended, on a unanimous vote of 7-0, to establish a 15-MINUTE LOADING ZONE, 9AM-6PM, TUESDAY-SATURDAY, in front of 905 Rhode Island Street.
Action Request
It should be noted that loading zones are not generally actively enforced by police officers or parking control officers, but, are usually enforced on a complaint basis.
It is recommended that the City Commission concur with the recommendation of the Traffic Safety Commission and establish a 15-MINUTE LOADING ZONE, 9AM-6PM, TUESDAY-SATURDAY, in front of 905 Rhode Island Street.
