Public Works Projects Receive Awards

The American Public Works Association (APWA) Kansas Chapter selected their Project of the Year Awards for 2014 Projects and the 23rd & Iowa Reconstruction Project was selected in the Transportation category under $5 million.  The project was a partnership with the City of Lawrence and KDOT as the project manager, BG Consultants the design engineer, and Amino Brothers, Inc. the contractor.  The project will be submitted to the national APWA award committee for consideration.

 

The Venture Park Development received two awards: The Kansas Ready Mixed Concrete Association 2014 Municipal Concrete Award and The American Concrete Paving Association (ACPA) Missouri/Kansas Chapter award for best Municipal Street & Intersection Paving Project completed in the state of Kansas in 2014. The project was recognized at the ACPA annual conference on March 4th.  The Venture Park project was managed in-house by city staff, Bartlett & West was the design engineer, RD Johnson the general contractor and Pavers Inc, the paving contractor.

 

Spring Compost and Woodchip Sale

The City’s Solid Waste Division sold 2,013 cubic yards (1,107 tons) of compost and 1,050 cubic yards (302 tons) of woodchips during the Spring Compost and Woodchip Sale on March 19 – 21, 2015.  880 vehicles participated during the 3-day sale and a total of $10,370 was generated during the sale. Compost and woodchips were sold for $10 per bucket load which is approximately two (2) cubic yards. Please see the attached report for more details. 

 

Downtown Pedestrian Recycling Pilot Program

On March 24, 2015, the City of Lawrence installed a few new trash and recycling bins for pedestrian use along Massachusetts Street at the intersections.  Public Works and Parks & Recreation Departments are working together to provide this new service in Downtown Lawrence.   Please see the attached report for more details.

 

Daddy Daughter date night a Swashbucklin Success:

Saturday, March 7, Douglas County Fairgrounds saw a whole crew of pirates show up for Daddy Daughter Date Night. More than 100 dads and daughters arrived.   Please see the attached report for more details.
