RE:

Project PW1501 – KLINK Project, Iowa Street (US-59), From 6th Street to Harvard Road, and From Irving Hill Road to 21st Street Mill & Overlay

Project Description

The KLINK project will consist of a mill and overlay and full depth asphalt patching where needed on Iowa Street (US-59), from 6th Street to Harvard Road, and from Irving Hill Road to 21st Street (see attached map).  Video detection will also be installed on traffic signals at intersections of Iowa Street, with 9th Street and Harvard Road, and 19th Street. The intersections of 6th Street and Iowa Street, 15th Street and Iowa Street, and 23rd Street and Iowa Street have recently been reconstructed. This KLINK project will bridge the area recently constructed creating an improved Iowa Street corridor all the way from 6th  Street to 23rd Street. Public Works staff designed the project in-house and will be providing construction inspection. No property acquisition will be required.

KU will be making improvements to the Irving Hill Bridge between May 18, 2015 and the end of July. The KLINK project and the Irving Hill Bridge Improvement Project will coordinate all traffic control and maintain one lane of traffic in each direction at all times on Iowa Street.

Project Funding

The project will be funded from the general fund. The estimated project cost is $800,000. KDOT will provide $200,000 contribution of the cost with the city paying the remaining $600,000 through street maintenance funds. The project cost does not include the cost of engineering design or construction engineering services.
