Lawrence, Kansas
WHEREAS: The Lawrence Civic Choir was founded by dedicated musicians forty years ago and has been sustained through the volunteer efforts of innumerable board members and singers, and through the financial support of many community members; and
WHEREAS: Over 1,300 individuals have sung in the choir and several of the original members still sing with the choir; and
WHEREAS: The Lawrence Civic Choir serves the Lawrence community by performing masterworks of choral music, providing opportunities for local instrumentalists to perform, and by awarding scholarships to high school graduates; and
WHEREAS: The Lawrence Civic Choir, accompanied by the Lawrence Community Orchestra, will present a grand finale to their fortieth anniversary season with a performance of Brahm’s Requiem, at the Lied Center on Sunday, April 12, 2015; and
WHEREAS: The Lawrence Civic Choir commissioned Geoffrey Wilcken to write a song in celebration of the 40th anniversary. The song is titled “One Out of Many” and will be sung for the first time on April 12, 2015;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Mike Amyx, Mayor of the City of Lawrence, Kansas, do hereby proclaim the week of April 12 – 18, 2015, as
