RE:

Set Bid Date of March 24, 2015 for Bid No. B1518, Project No. PW1513 – 2015 Overlay, Patch, and Microsurfacing Program

Project Description

The patch and microsurfacing portion of the project includes a number of City residential and collector streets, generally bordered by W. 6th Street to KU and Iowa Street, and to Illinois Street.  The arterial N. Iowa Street from Peterson Drive to Lakeview Road is also included for microsurfacing.  Streets to receive microsurfacing are determined to be in generally good condition.  Streets deteriorated beyond the recommended condition for microsurfacing and included with this project are shown as milling and overlay (see location map).

Project History

The City’s annual pavement maintenance program was reviewed and approved by the City Commission on February 24, 2015.  Other contracted maintenance program projects such as the 2015 Crack Seal Program (to be performed by City internal crews), the 2015 Overlay and Concrete Rehabilitation Program, and the KLINK Milling and Overlay project are also planned for this construction season as presented at the February 24, 2015 City Commission Meeting.

Project Details

The project includes various surface and full depth patching of deteriorated areas on City streets followed by the microsurfacing of the entire pavement surface OR milling, patching, and overlay as designated.  All existing pavement markings will be reestablished.  Additional bicycle pavement markings (sharrows and bike lanes) will be included on several streets within the project work areas as coordinated by the Public Works Department based on recommendations from Bicycle Advisory Committee.

Project Funding

The pavement maintenance program is typically funded from several sources.  Funding for the program was approved in August, 2014 and adopted in the 2015 City Budget.  This project was included in the 2015 Pavement Maintenance Program for microsurfacing and overlay to be paid from the general fund and sales tax.
