Cooperative Agreement Concerning Fire Medical Department Medical Director

 

 

Please place the following item on the consent agenda for the City Commission to consider at their January 6, 2015 meeting:

 

Background:

The governing body of the City of Lawrence and Douglas County has entered into an agreement by which the Lawrence-Douglas County Fire Medical department is the operator of the city/county ambulance service as defined by K.S.A. 65-6112(c) and (r), respectively.  On July 2, 2008, the City of Lawrence approved City Ordinance No. 8312 and Douglas County Board of County Commissioners approved Resolution 08-28 establishing their part(s) of a joint resolution/ordinance concerning charges for ambulance services. 

 

K.S.A. 65-6126 requires each emergency medical service to have a medical director appointed by the operator of the service to review approve and implement medical protocols, approve and monitor the activities and education of attendants. 

 

It is the desire of the City/County to appoint Dr. Caleb Trent, M.D. as the medical director of the Fire Medical department to perform the duties and have the authority as set out by the attached agreement.  All cost associated with this duties will be paid 100% by the County.

 

Recommendation Action:

Authorize City Manager to sign a City/County Cooperation Agreement appointing Dr. Caleb Trent, M.D., as medical director for the Lawrence-Douglas County Fire Medical Department.
