RE:

Agenda Items 12/2/2014: Traffic Safety Commission, Yield signs on Laura Avenue and on Maple Lane at 13th Street

Background

At the October 6 Traffic Safety Commission meeting, the Commission heard a request to establish YIELD signs on Laura Avenue and on Maple Lane at 13th Street. Temporary Yield signs were installed at the intersection in August.  13th Street, Laura Avenue and Maple Lane are all classified as “local” streets in a residential area. One of the criteria in the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices for a YIELD sign is, “At an intersection where a special problem exists and where engineering judgment indicates the problem to be susceptible to correction by use of the YIELD sign.”

Traffic Safety Commission Action

At the Traffic Safety Commission meeting, no one addressed the Commission concerning this item. The Commission recommended, on a vote of 8-0, to recommend establishing a MULTI-WAY STOP at the intersection of Overland Drive and Queens Road.

Action Request

It is recommended that the City Commission concur with the recommendation of the Traffic Safety Commission, if appropriate.
