RE:	Agenda Items 12/2/2014: Traffic Safety Commission, No Parking on Delaware Street from 9^th Street to 11^th Street

Background

At the October 6 Traffic Safety Commission meeting, the Commission heard a request to establish NO PARKING along the west side of Delaware Street between 9^th Street and 11^th Street. Delaware Street is classified as a “local” street in a residential area and is paved approximately 28 feet wide. This portion of Delaware Street is designated as a Truck Delivery Route. At a neighborhood meeting on 15 September, the residents in attendance requested that consideration be given to prohibiting parking along the west side of the street. Parking is currently prohibited along the east side of the street from 11^th Street, north 300 feet.

Traffic Safety Commission Action

At the Traffic Safety Commission meeting, one (1) resident of Delaware Street spoke in opposition to the request. In addition, it was noted that an email had been received from a resident in opposition to the request and another resident had telephoned to state their opposition to the request. The Commission recommended, on a vote of 8-0, to recommend denying the request for NO PARKING along the west side of Delaware Street from 9^th Street to 11^th Street.

Action Request

It is recommended that the City Commission concur with the recommendation of the Traffic Safety Commission, if appropriate.
