Proclamation
Lawrence, Kansas
WHEREAS: The City of Lawrence recognizes the value and importance of small businesses to the local, regional, and national economy; and
WHEREAS: Downtown Lawrence, Inc. participates in the nationally recognized Small Business Saturday event on Saturday, November 29, 2014, in an effort to encourage residents to support the local business community first as part of their annual holiday shopping traditions; and
WHEREAS: According to the Small Business Administration, there are 23 million small businesses in America which account for fifty-four percent of all U.S. sales; and
WHEREAS: Our community understands the important contributions small businesses make to their communities. As elected leaders, and small business owners or supporters ourselves, we encourage Lawrence residents to take time to shop small this holiday season; and
WHEREAS: Downtown Lawrence, Inc. and the City of Lawrence are both working to create an environment which is fun and festive for the holiday shopping season. We look forward to many holiday events including: Santa’s Rescue atop Weaver’s Department Store, the downtown holiday lighting ceremony, and the opening of the Parks and Recreation Department’s outdoor ice skating rink, all of which will be held on Friday, November 28, 2014. Additionally, we welcome the Lawrence Old-Fashioned Christmas Parade and the Winter Wonder Weekend, both during the weekend of December 6, 2014.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Mike Amyx, Mayor of the City of Lawrence, Kansas, do hereby proclaim Saturday, November 29, 2014 as
in the City of Lawrence and encourage all the citizens of Lawrence to shop small and support local downtown events and businesses this holiday season.
