Background
At the July 8, 2014 City Commission meeting, the Commission authorized an Agreement with the Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) through their Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) set-aside program to expand the City of Lawrence Traffic Signal ITS network to additional areas of the city and to provide additional equipment for the Traffic Operations Center in the Traffic Engineering Building at 445 Mississippi Street. The Agreement included a provision that the City will provide and install new traffic signal controllers at each intersection.
Project Description
This project consists of adding 12 intersections to the City Traffic Signal ITS network along 6th Street from K-10 to Wakarusa Drive, along Wakarusa Drive from 6th Street to Clinton Parkway, and along Clinton Parkway from Wakarusa Drive to Iowa Street.
Project Cost
The total cost for the new traffic signal controllers is $29,400. The controllers will be purchased from Gades Sales Co., Inc., Wichita, KS. Gades is the sole authorized distributor for these controllers in the State of Kansas
Funding
Funding will be general obligation bonds, Resolution 7078.
Action
Authorize sole source purchase of 12 traffic signal controllers for expansion of the City Traffic Signal ITS network in the amount of $29,400, if appropriate.
