RE:

City Manager’s Report – APWA Snow Rodeo

On October 6, 7, and 8, 2014, Public Works Street and Fleet Division employees attended and competed in the annual American Public Works Association (APWA) Snow Rodeo event in Gardner Kansas. This event includes teams of skilled operators and mechanic from Public Works agencies throughout the Kansas City Metro area and Northeast Kansas. Although the event is titled Snow Rodeo it is much more than simply a snow equipment completion. The competitions are a combination of written test that challenge the participant’s knowledge and timed hands on skill tests in all phases of Public Works endeavors, they include, street sweeper, skid steer, backhoe, excavator, mechanic repair, and truck mounted snow plow competitions. This year, Tim Cast led a small group of Public Works operators to the event. They participated in several events, CDL trailer, skid steer, excavator, backhoe, wheel loader, mechanic, and 10 foot snow plow class. Our contingent had a very impressive showing gaining an 8th place finish in the overall team competition out of nearly 40 teams. During the individual competitions we secured awards in four events and all of our team was very competitive in their events. Listed below are the employees and events they participated in.
