Permits were issued for forty (40) City projects in August, including a construction trailer for work at the Waste Water Treatment Plant site at 4380 O’Connell Road with no construction valuation; a remodel project for the LMH Endowment Office at 325 Maine Street valued at $41,500; electrical work at Centennial Park at 600 Rockledge Rd valued at $6,200; electrical work at the Library Parking Garage at 707 Vermont Street valued at $9,700; a wall sign for Sports Pavilion Lawrence at 100 Rock Chalk Lane valued at $14,600; a monument sign for Lawrence Memorial Hospital at 325 Maine Street valued at $9,275; and plumbing permits for 34 inflow and infiltration program projects by the Utilities Department at various locations with valuation totaling $96,755.

The projects with the highest values for construction for the month were a new Menard’s Home Improvement Store at 1470 W 31st Street, valued at $5,500,000; and a new Sprouts Farmers Market at 4740 Bauer Farm Drive, valued at $3,750,000.

These statistics are of interest in tracking construction activity in the community, but only partially tell the story for staff workload and performance.  Staff has established performance goals of completing “initial” reviews for residential permits within 5 business days and for commercial permits within 15 business days of the application date.  An initial review is a comprehensive first review of an application and plans for a building project, and may include review work performed by staff from Planning and Development Services, Fire and Medical, Utilities and Public Works Departments, as well as other relevant review agencies (depending on the nature and scope of the project).  Initial and subsequent reviews and comments are tracked in the Innoprise permit tracking system from which reports may be extracted.  Development Services staff is responsible for coordinating review work and disseminating review comments to applicants.

In September, staff completed 106 of 114 residential reviews within 5 business days (92.9%), and 171 of 172 commercial reviews within 15 business days (99.4%).  The following table tracks performance in meeting these objectives.
