Agenda Item – Authorize the Purchase of Variable Frequency Drives for the Clinton High Service Pump |
Project Description
The Clinton Water Treatment Plant treats and supplies drinking water to the residents of Lawrence. The high service pumps supply treated water to the distribution system. The Clinton Plant has the ability to serve both the west hills and central service areas of the system. The pumps are controlled with a VFD for variable speed control. Currently the West Hills #3 pump is not available due to an inoperable VFD. This VFD has been in service for approximately 14 years.
Project Status
Staff has determined that the replacement of the VFD is required to maintain pumping reliability. Staff has negotiated a quote for the VFD, startup services, and a 5 year warranty with Logic Inc. in the amount of $56,488. Logic Inc. is the local supplier for the Department’s specified standard ABB VFDs.
Project Funding
The project is funded from Department of Utilities O & M budget.
Action
Authorize the execution of a purchase agreement with Logic Inc. in the amount of $56,488 for the purchase of one ABB Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) with a 5 year warranty for the Clinton West Hills #3 pump.
