RE: |
Purchase Request for Three (3) Mobile Data Units |
Background:
As part of our FY 2014 Capital Improvement Program, we requested and received approval for the purchase of three (3) Mobile Data Units in the amount of $16,954.50. These mobile data units will be used to replace computers where the operating system can no longer be upgraded.
Current Status:
This is a continuation of our mobile data implementation which allows members to receive dispatch information, hazardous material information and mapping in the vehicles during response. Our current Mobile Data Computers are in excess of 11 years old and can no longer be upgraded with the required operating system.
We requested Capital Improvement Funds for FY 2015 in the amount of $208,000 to replace all MDC’s. Our MDC’s are in the same condition and age as the units recently replaced by the police department. At this point this has not made the current project list. It is imperative that we replace these units now and we continue to replace units on an annual basis just to maintain this service in primary staffed apparatus.
Recommendation:
We recommend the utilization of Kansas State Contract # 28440 to purchase the mobile data units.
We are requesting permission from the City Commission to authorize the purchase by sole source (utilizing Kansas State Contract #28440) to purchase three (3) Motorola MDC Model MW810 and accessories from Motorola in the amount of $16,695.50.
