Backup Software Improvements
For many years the City of Lawrence has used Seagate’s Backup Exec software for backing up City servers. A couple of years ago we added a Unitrends backup solution to backup Utilities Servers and we have found it to perform much better, and have better disaster recovery capabilities. One of the main issues has been the time that is required to perform full backups of over 50 servers, the Seagate products has become inadequate as the amount of data that is being backed up continues to grow. The Unitrends solution also handles the enterprise virtualized servers much better. The City would continue to use the existing backup storage units for backups, but would upgrade to Unitrends and drop the Seagate software maintenance.

The software maintenance is funded by the user departments/divisions and is broken down as follows:

Action Requests
Information Technology recommends the City Commission to approve a purchase order to IP Pathways in the amount of $20,039.60 to upgrade the City’s existing backup software.
