RE:

September 23, 2014 Agenda Item – GPS Rover Purchase

Background

The Department of Utilities currently has two (2) Trimble R10 GPS rovers deployed to collect infrastructure asset information and survey CIP and public infrastructure projects. The existing Trimble GPS rovers and base station equipment were recently updated in March 2014 to bring the equipment current. To date, Utilities field staff has collected 67,872 survey data points using the current GPS equipment.

Project Description

This equipment purchase is to provide a dedicated GPS rover for collection of location and depth information of underground infrastructure at the Wakarusa Wastewater Treatment Plant and Conveyance Corridor. The recommended equipment will provide accurate location and depth data of underground utilities and infrastructure to be installed and remotely transmit the data back to office staff from the field. The Trimble GPS rover will utilize the existing Trimble reference base station located on top of city hall. Upon completion of the Wakarusa WWTP facility, the GPS rover will be deployed within the department for collection of inventory infrastructure assets, system capacity analysis, and survey of CIP and public infrastructure projects.
