Permits were issued for seven (7) City projects in July, including a wall structure to accommodate sign graphics at Rock Chalk Park, 6100 Rock Chalk Drive, valued at $52,300; a sign permit for Rock Chalk Park and Sports Pavilion Lawrence at Rock Chalk Park, 6100 Rock Chalk Drive, valued at $5,000; a furnace replacement for the Lawrence Douglas County Housing Authority at 2930 Peterson Road valued at $2,500; a water heater replacement for Lawrence Douglas County Housing Authority at 1600 Haskell Avenue valued at $500; and permits for three (3) inflow and infiltration program projects by the Utilities Department at 1312 Summit Street, 4001 W 13th Street and 1635 Cambridge Road with valuation totaling $3,420.  The project with the highest value of construction for the month was for a new medical clinic building at 4930 Overland Drive, valued at $1,300,000.

These statistics are of interest in tracking construction activity in the community, but only partially tell the story for staff workload and performance.  Staff has established performance goals of completing “initial” reviews for residential permits within five (5) business days and for commercial permits within 15 business days of the application date.  An initial review is a comprehensive first review of an application and plans for a building project, and may include review work performed by staff from Planning and Development Services, Fire and Medical, Utilities and Public Works Departments, as well as other relevant review agencies (depending on the nature and scope of the project).  Initial and subsequent reviews and comments are tracked in the Innoprise permit tracking system from which reports may be extracted.  Development Services staff is responsible for coordinating review work and disseminating review comments to applicants.

In July, staff completed 108 of 112 residential reviews within five (5) business days (96.4%), and 129 of 129 commercial reviews within 15 business days (100%).  The following table tracks performance in meeting these objectives.
