RE:	Agenda Items 6/17/2014: Traffic Safety Commission, Roundabout at Folks Road and Overland Drive

Background

At the May 5^th Traffic Safety Commission meeting, the Commission heard a request for a roundabout at the intersection of Folks Road and Overland Drive. Folks Road and Overland Drive are both classified as “collector” streets. Warrants for roundabouts have not been established; however, a roundabout can substitute for a multi-way stop or traffic signal, which do have established warrants. Based on traffic data obtained March 31^st -April 1^st , a multi-way stop or traffic signal are not currently warranted.

Traffic Safety Commission Action

At the Traffic Safety Commission meeting, no residents addressed the Commission with respect to this request. The Commission recommended on a vote of 5-0 to recommend denying the request for a roundabout at the intersection of Folks Road and Overland Drive.

Action Request

It is recommended that the City Commission concur with the recommendation of the Traffic Safety Commission, if appropriate.
