Event Permit – 2014 Lawrence Originals July 4 Event |
The Lawrence Originals are planning their annual July 4 celebration at Watson Park, and have requested an event permit for the closure of 7th Street from Kentucky to Tennessee and an ordinance for the sale, possession and consumption of alcohol.
The group has reserved the park and wants to close the street to allow the parking of equipment and safe passage for pedestrians between the two sections of Watson Park north and south of 7th Street. The event consists of live music, food vendors, and children’s activities. The organizers are in the process of obtaining State and City temporary permits to allow the sale of alcohol during the event.
The request to sell, possess and consume alcohol within the public right of way has been reviewed pursuant to City of Lawrence Code, Chapter IV, Article 1, Section 4-113 and the event was not found to be within 400 feet of a church or school.
In addition, Police, Parks and Recreation, Public Works, Fire / Medical, Lawrence Transit, Downtown Lawrence, Inc., and the Chamber all have reviewed this permit with no issues.
