RE: |
Consent Agenda Item – Noh Mask Agreement with Spencer Museum of Art |
Background
In October of 2000 the City of Hiratsuka, Japan presented three noh masks created and donated by Takatsu Koichi to the City of Lawrence. Since that initial presentation, the three masks have been on loan to the Spencer Museum of Art for safe keeping. Although not on permanent display, the masks are available for viewing by appointment.
A loan agreement was first initiated in 2000, allowing the Spencer Museum to house and keep the masks safely at no cost to the City.
Staff Recommendation
Staff recommends renewal of the loan agreement, with review of the loan in ten years. The Sister Cities Advisory Board is in agreement with this recommendation.
Action
Authorize City Manager to sign agreement with Spencer Museum of Art, renewing loan agreement for Japanese Noh masks.
