RE:	License Agreement for use of Edgewood Park

Please include the following item on the City Commission agenda for consideration at the June 3, 2014, meeting:

Authorize the City Manager to sign a license agreement with Lawrence –Douglas County Housing Authority for use of a portion of Edgewood Park to develop a new playground area.

Project Description

Over the years, the City of Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department staff have worked with the Lawrence –Douglas County Housing Authority staff to allow a portion of Edgewood Park (West of the creek) to be used as a playground area. This area was installed and maintained by the Housing Authority staff to benefit the kids living in the area. In recent months the equipment in this play area was removed due to safety concerns on the outdated equipment.

The Housing Authority staff would like to purchase new play equipment, and continue to use this portion of the park. The attached agreement would formalize the arrangements that have existed in the past on this property. As part of this agreement, the Housing Authority would be required to maintain the property and list the City as additionally insured on their insurance policy covering the property.         

Project Funding

No cost to the City.
