Eagle bend hosts Kansas Golf Association Tournament

Eagle Bend Golf Course was proud to host the Kansas Golf Association’s 26th Kansas Mid-Amateur on Saturday-Sunday, May 3-4. It was the first time in history the tournament was held at Eagle Bend. Ninety-Nine golfers participated in the Kansas Mid-Amateur, with Jon Troutman, from Spring Hill, Kan., winning the tournament with a total score of 135. Lawrence, Kan., was represented by 11 out of the 99 participants with the others coming from all different areas in Kansas. The tournament brought in more than $6,000, but it also gave Eagle Bend a chance to further its image as a leader in public golf in the state of Kansas. The course was in great shape, and many complementary comments from everyone who participated were received throughout the tournament. It was a very successful event, and we look forward to showcasing Eagle Bend in more tournaments like this in the future. Eagle Bend will be hosting the Kansas Boys Junior Amateur this coming June, Monday-Thursday, June 9-12.

Annual Helmet Fair

On May 10, 2014 the Lawrence-Douglas County Fire Medical Department  conducted the annual Helmet Fair on Lot 127 south of Allen Fieldhouse on the University of Kansas.  From 11:30-1:30 we fitted and gave away 353 helmets.  The event was extremely successful , with outstanding support from the City of Lawrence Police Department and Park & Rec departments, KU Public Safety, Douglas County Medical Society, Lawrence Pilot Club, Ranjbar Orthodontics, Laird Noller, Dillon’s, McDonalds, Douglas County Safe Kids, Sunflower Outdoor Bike, Lawrence Mountain Bike Club and Kansas Athletics.

One head injury necessitating a helicopter transport to a critical care facility is nearly $10,000. The distribution of the 353 helmets this year for a rough cost of $3,530 will have a direct impact on the reduction of a possible head injury and financial impact on the individual’s family and community.     Photo
