Background

As part of the 15 Year Large Water Meter Replacement Program, the Utilities Department Field Operations replaces all 1 ½ inch or larger meters that are 15 years or older with new meters. This program is consistent with the American Water Works Association standards and manufacturing recommendations for reliability of water measurement. To maintain consistency of the meters used and compatibility with the radio reads, the Department sole source purchases only Badger brand meters. Generally the meters require at least 8 weeks for delivery. The following quantity, meters and prices are as follows:

Funding

The project will be funded from the Department of Utilities Operations & Maintenance Budget. 

 

Staff Recommendation

Utility staff recommends authorization of the purchase of the bulk order of meters for replacement of meters through the 15 Year Large Water Meter Replacement Program.

 

Action

Authorize the Utilities Department to sole source purchase the meters for the 2014 15 Year Large Water Meter Replacement Program.
