RE:

Agenda Item – Advertise requests for Proposals R1406 for Lime Residuals Re-use Program.

Background/Project Description

The City of Lawrence Kaw Water & Clinton Reservoir Water Treatment Plants pump their spent lime into lagoon facilities for storage. The RFP is for the emptying of a lagoon, transportation and beneficial reuse of a liquid to semi-solid lime residual. The proposal should be for the removal of approximately 8,000 cubic yards of lime at a range of 30 – 70% Total Solids.

In the past, the lime has been beneficially reused in two ways: 1) Applied to farmland to raise the pH of the agricultural land, and 2) The spent lime was mixed with soil to be used around construction sites. All activities must be conducted in a manner which meets all existing regulations and requirements and shall not negatively affect the City’s public relationships with area farms.

Project Funding

The project will be funded from the Department of Utilities Operations & Maintenance Budget.
