RE:

Arts Center Street P’Arty and Art Tougeau Parade

The Lawrence Arts Center has applied for a Temporary Use of Public Right-of-Way Permit for the closure of a portion of the 900 block of New Hampshire from noon, Friday, May 30 until 1:00 p.m. Saturday, May 31, 2014. The event would combine the Art Center’s Final Friday event with the Art Tougeau Parade staging events, with live music, games, vendors, demonstrations and other art related activities. The event would close the 900 block of New Hampshire from 9th Street to just north of the southernmost entrance to the parking garage (see attached map).

Notice was sent to property owners and businesses in the area (see attached). In addition, Parks and Recreation, Public Works, Fire/Medical, Lawrence Transit, DLI and the Chamber all have reviewed this permit with no issues.

Access to the parking garage would be maintained via the southernmost entrance on New Hampshire Street as well as the 9th Street entrance. The street would be blocked with movable barricades but the applicant would maintain adequate width in the westernmost lane for fire apparatus access to the garage in case of emergency.

ACTIONS:    Approve a Temporary Use of Public Right-of-Way Permit allowing the closure of a portion of the 900 block of New Hampshire Street for the Arts Center Final Friday event from noon, Friday, May 30 until 1:00 p.m. Saturday, May 31, 2014.

Adopt on first reading, Ordinance No. 8978, allowing the possession, and consumption of alcoholic liquor on public property from 12:00 p.m. on Friday, May 30, 2014, to 1:00 p.m. on Saturday May 31, 2014 in the 900 block of New Hampshire Street, from north of the south entrance of the parking garage to 9th Street associated with the Final Friday/Art Tougeau event.
