Cross Connection Control Program Reminder

The Cross Connection Control Program was established by the City in 1992 for the purpose of preventing contamination of the public water system due to backflow resulting from pressure changes and flow reversals. City Code Section 19-702 requires City water users to install, operate, test, maintain and repair approved backflow devices and maintain accurate test records for backflow devices, typically on lawn irrigation systems, boilers, fire sprinkler systems, and other uses that may result in contaminated water entering the City’s distribution system.  The Program is currently under review by the Utilities Department. Pending program changes, the department intends to issue a public notice reminding City water users of the requirement to test backflow devices on an annual basis. This public notice would be coupled with a direct mailing to currently identified backflow testers requesting them to follow up with their customers on testing.
