Project Descriptions

Bob Billings Parkway – Sanitary Sewer Relocations (Contract 1)

The sanitary sewer relocation project consists of relocating approximately 1,100 linear feet of 12” diameter sanitary sewer interceptors in the area of Bob Billings Parkway as shown on the attached map. The existing sanitary sewer in this area is in conflict with the new Bob Billings Parkway Interchange.

Bob Billings Parkway – Watermain Relocations (Contract 2)

The watermain relocation project consists relocating 425 linear feet of 12” waterline north of Bob Billings Parkway, as shown on the attached map.  The existing waterline in this area is in conflict with the new right-turn lane from Bob Billings Parkway onto Langston Way.

Project History

KDOT is currently designing an interchange for the intersection of Highway K-10 and Bob Billings Parkway.  This project is anticipated to bid in June of 2014 with construction completed in early 2016.  Review of the project’s field check plans show that portions of the existing sanitary system and watermain will require relocation.  Department of Utilities staff has been coordinating with KDOT and Landplan Engineering for sanitary sewer and watermain relocations required for this future construction.  Landplan Engineering conducted an initial review of KDOT plans to establish a preliminary layout of the required relocations.

On October 15, 2013 the City Commission authorized execution of the engineering services agreement with Landplan Engineering for the project.

Project Status

Bob Billings Parkway – Sanitary Sewer Relocations (Contract 1)

This section of relocations includes approximately 1,100 linear feet of 12” diameter sanitary sewer interceptor.  This existing sanitary interceptor line is shown on the attached map.  KDOT has agreed to reimburse the cost for all work associated with this portion of the project due to this section being located within a City owned designated utility easement.  Additional permanent and temporary easements have been acquired from property owners.  Plans have been submitted for KDHE Permit approval and the award of the contract will be caveat upon permit receipt.  Construction cost for the relocated sanitary sewer is currently estimated to be $151,125.

Bob Billings Parkway – Watermain Relocations (Contract 2)

This section of relocations includes 425 linear feet of 12” watermain relocation.  The existing watermain is shown on the attached map.  This watermain is being relocated due to the west-bound right-turn lane and associated improvements at the northeast corner of Bob Billings Parkway and Langston Way.  This right-turn lane is being partially funded by Langston Heights Development, LLC due to the future public development of Langston Heights and Langston Commons.  Langston Heights Development, LLC has agreed to reimburse the cost for all work associated with this relocated watermain in recognition that these improvements will benefit Langston Heights Development, LLC.  Construction cost for the relocated watermain is currently estimated to be $70,520.
