RE: |
GPS Rover Replacement & GPS Base Station Upgrade |
Please include the
following item on the City Commission Agenda for consideration at the February 25,
2014 meeting:
Approve purchase of a
firmware upgrade for the existing Trimble GPS/GNSS Reference Receiver and two
(2) Trimble GPS Rover/Data Collectors from Seiler Instrument in amount of
$60,595.00
Project Description:
This equipment is to replace two (2) existing Utilities GPS rovers/data
collectors and related field equipment, as well as an upgrade to the city’s existing
Trimble reference station located on the roof of City Hall. The recommended
equipment will increase productivity of infrastructure data collection by
allowing data to be remotely transmitted back to office staff from the field.
The firmware upgrade to the City’s Trimble reference station is needed to bring
the existing firmware current. The updated reference station in conjunction
with the rovers will allow the use of a broader satellite network and better
satellite availability when collecting data under trees and around tall buildings
or obstacles. The recommended equipment will be used for collection of
inventory infrastructure assets, system capacity analysis, and survey of CIP
and public infrastructure projects. The existing GPS rovers and field equipment
will be redeployed for use by other departments within the city that need
survey grade GPS equipment.
Project History:
Department of Utilities purchased its current GPS rover equipment in
March 2007, at which time the reference station on the roof of City Hall was
also upgraded. Incremental updates to the GPS Rover’s software and hardware maintenance
have been maintained as needed. In the past seven (7) years Utilities field
staff collected 66,348 survey points, surveyed using the current equipment.
Project

Instrument, the sole source provider for Trimble sales and service for the
State of Kansas. Seiler Instrument is to provide; one (1) Trimble NetR5

w/Bipod, two (2) Hard Cases and related field accessories, cabling etc. Seiler
