Background
On January 6, 2014, the Traffic Safety Commission heard a request to
establish NO PARKING 7AM-5PM MON-FRI along the south side of Stratford Road
between Iowa Street and Sunset Drive. Stratford Road is classified as a “local”
street in a residential area and is paved approximately 25 feet wide. Parking
is currently prohibited along the north side of Stratford Road between Iowa
Street and West Campus Road; and, parking is currently prohibited along the
south side of Stratford Road, 7am-5pm, Mon-Fri, between Sunset Drive and West
Campus Road.
Traffic Safety Commission Action
At the Traffic Safety
Commission meeting, two (2) members of the public addressed the Commission in
support of the request; no one spoke in opposition to the request. It was noted
that it is difficult for residents to get in-and-out of their driveways with
all the vehicles parked on the street and students late for class exceeding the
speed limit; in addition, this restriction would be consistent with the
remainder of Stratford Road to the east. A motion to recommend establishing NO PARKING 7AM-5PM MON-FRI along the south
side of Stratford Road between Iowa Street and Sunset Drive carried, 7-0.
Action Request
It is recommended that the City Commission concur with the
recommendation of the Traffic Safety Commission, if appropriate.
