Project Number PW1401, KLINK

Project Number PW1208 – 23rd & Iowa Street Geometric Improvements

Project Number PW1303 – 9th & Kentucky

City Commission Agenda February 4, 2014

KDOT Project Number 40-23 U-0223-01 is this year’s KLINK project which includes microsurfacing of W. 6th Street from Folks Road to K-10.  This project will close the lane in which the material is placed but should have minimal impact to traffic.  The KLINK program is a 50/50 cost share up to a KDOT maximum of $200,000.   The City Commission authorized the issuance of bonds in the amount of $325,000 for the City’s share (Resolution No. 7034).

Project 59-23 KA-2611-01 is the reconstruction of the intersection at 23rd & Iowa Street and will include dual left turns in all 4 directions (see attached map).  This project bids in March and is included in the “Turnback” Agreement, with KDOT participations of $1,750,000. Estimated cost is $3 million (including engineering, easements and construction), and the remainder is from the infrastructure sales tax and Resolution No. 6966 authorizing issuance of bonds.

Project 23 U-0161-01 is the 9th and Kentucky improvements. These improvements include signal replacement and ADA accessible ramps. This is a 90/10 project with KDOT. Estimate is $188,000. The agreement is for inspection services that the City staff will provide and KDOT will reimburse ninety percent (90%) of our costs (estimated @ $16,383).

Action Requested:  Authorize Mayor to sign agreements with the Kansas Department of Transportation for construction of:

1)    Project Number PW1401, KLINK;
