RE:

28 January 2014 City Commission Agenda Item

Walnut Street

Traffic Calming

Background

On December 2, 2013, the Traffic Safety Commission heard a request for TRAFFIC CALMING on Walnut Street between 6th Street & 7th Street. Walnut Street is classified as a “local” street in a residential area and is paved approximately 20 feet wide without curb and gutter or sidewalks. Traffic data obtained November 20-21, 2013 found that the criteria for consideration of TRAFFIC CALMING was not met; the 24-hour traffic volume was approximately 275 vehicles and the 85th percentile speed was just over 30mph.

Traffic Safety Commission Action

At the Traffic Safety Commission meeting, no one from the public addressed the Commission either in support of, or in opposition to the request. A motion to recommend denying the request for TRAFFIC CALMING on Walnut Street between 6th Street & 7th Street carried, 7-0.

Action Request

It is recommended that the City Commission concur with the recommendation of the Traffic Safety Commission, if appropriate.
