Background
On December 2, 2013, the Traffic Safety Commission heard a request to establish NO LEFT TURN on southbound Missouri Street, Arkansas Street, and Maine Street at 19th Street. Police Department records show a total of three (3) reported crashes at these three (3) intersections during the past three (3) years; one (1) at Arkansas Street, two (2) at Missouri Street and none at Maine Street; all crashes occurred between 2:00pm and 5:00pm. The City Code does permit the establishment of left turn restrictions.
Traffic Safety Commission Action
At the Traffic Safety
Commission meeting, one (1) member of the
public addressed the Commission noting that this has been a problem for years,
but not sure what a solution would be. Commissioners noted that the crash
history was not very high. A motion to recommend denying the request to establish NO
LEFT TURN on southbound Missouri Street, Arkansas Street and Maine Street carried,
7-0.
Action Request
It is recommended that the City Commission concur with the recommendation of the Traffic Safety Commission, if appropriate.
