RE:

28 January 2014 City Commission Agenda Item

30th Street & Kensington Road

YIELD signs

Background

On December 2, 2013, the Traffic Safety Commission heard a request to establish YIELD signs at the intersection of 30th Street & Kensington Road. Traffic data collected November 4-5, 2013 found the 85th percentile speed on all four (4) approaches to be below the state established speed limit of 30mph. In addition, Police Department records do not show any reported crashes at this intersection during the past three (3) years.  Guidelines for the installation of YIELD signs are contained in the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices published by the Federal Highway Administration; however, none of the requirements for consideration are currently met.

Traffic Safety Commission Action

At the Traffic Safety Commission meeting, no one from the public addressed the Commission in support of, or in opposition to the request.  A motion to recommend denying the request for YIELD signs at the intersection of 30th Street & Kensington Road carried, 7-0.

Action Request

It is recommended that the City Commission concur with the recommendation of the Traffic Safety Commission, if appropriate.
