1,197
tons of glass recycled in 2013 through City and Ripple Glass partnership
In
2013, the City of Lawrence collected and recycled 1,197 tons of glass which is
approximately the equivalent of 4,788,000 glass bottles (see attached pictures). Residents dropped off
glass food and beverage containers in the Ripple Glass purple recycling bins
located in the parking lots of Dillons at 4701 W 6th Street,
Hillcrest Shopping Center at 9th and Centennial Drive, Hy-Vee at
3504 Clinton Parkway, On The Rocks at 1818 Massachusetts Street, and Wal-Mart
at 3300 Iowa Street. Once 25 tons of glass accumulated, the City coordinated
with Ripple Glass to transport the glass from Lawrence to Ripple Glass’
facility in Kansas City, Missouri. The glass was primarily recycled into
fiberglass insulation.

· One ton of carbon dioxide is reduced for every six tons of recycled container glass used in the manufacturing process.
EAGLE BEND MAKES GOLF COURSE MAKES
IMPROVEMENT TO HOLE
Furthering the renovations at Eagle
Bend Golf Course, Hole No.17 is being spruced up for the upcoming golf season.
The shrubs and volunteer trees that had previously occupied the space in front
of the green in the creek area
have been excavated and the process has begun to put in rock ledges. When warm weather
allows for planting, landscaping will take place on the rock ledges to further
enhance the area in front of the green, making hole #17 a truly unique golf
hole that will offer spectacular views to our patrons.
